Tom Saater is a documentary photographer/photojournalist, documentary filmmaker, audio story producer and researcher. His social documentary work is focus on exploring contemporary social issues, migration, conflict, economy, daily life, technology, pop culture.
His work is defined by a commitment to ethical storytelling, visual integrity, and creating space for complex narratives to unfold.
Over the years, he been commissioned and regularly collaborate with leading international media outlets and organizations including The BBC, New York Times, Google, Bloomberg, Washington Post, Del Spiegel, TIME, Zeit Germany, State secretariat for Immigration Switzerland (SEM), National Geographic, Financial Times, Lufthansa, NPR,The Economist, Japan Times, British High Commission/Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Harvard University School of Public Health, etc.
He has collaborated on educational art projects and given talks internationally and facilitated storytelling photography workshops including at Contact Photography Festival in Toronto, Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography, served as Jury on National Geographic portfolio reviews in Africa and given talk at the Bronx Documentary Centre in New York etc
His work has been exhibited at international museums, galleries and festivals, including solo exhibition at University of Oxford, International Center of Photography(ICP) Museum New York, Venice Biennale, Ffotogallery Wales, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art Denmark as part of the Invisible Borders road trip project Lagos-Sarajevo, Addis Foto, Lagos Foto, Unseen Foto, the EverydayAfrica project and among others.
